The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) is making strides in addressing waste management and environmental sustainability within the rugby community.
PRF in partnership with Swire Shipping has pioneered a unique initiative by providing a comprehensive recycling training session to key players of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua: flyhalf, Caleb Muntz, lock Sailosi Vukalokalo, and flanker Kitione Salawa, at the Tanoa International Hotel, Nadi.
The Founder of PRF, Mr. Amitesh Deo, expressed enthusiasm for this groundbreaking endeavour, emphasising its significance in the history of sports, particularly Super Rugby in Fiji.
He highlighted PRF’s usual focus on education, corporate, and community sectors, noting that venturing into sports is a refreshing expansion.
Mr. Deo underscored rugby’s global appeal and its alignment with principles of sustainability and cultural values.
“By involving prominent rugby players in recycling efforts, PRF aims to foster a collective commitment to environmental stewardship, both locally and internationally.”
He said the collaboration signifies a patriotic dedication to Fiji’s well-being beyond the rugby field.
Mr. Deo hopes that the knowledge imparted during the training session will not only benefit the players but also cascade throughout the team, coaching staff, and fans worldwide.
“Ultimately, these comprehensive training sessions on recycling aspire to instill behavioural and mindset changes, aiming to enhance recycling participation and promote sustainable practices.”
