BAT Fiji expands Zero Waste to Landfill initiative to its Leaf Division in the west through partnership with Waste Recyclers Fiji Ltd
BAT Fiji is expanding its Zero Waste to Landfill initiative to its Leaf Division in Nadi and its Mavua Station in Sigatoka through its ongoing partnership with Pacific Recycling Foundation and Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited.
BAT Fiji General Manager Sam Dormor says as a business they are taking greater responsibility for waste reduction by reducing the waste that ends up in landfills.
“The ‘I Recycle Program’ launch is significant for BAT Fiji with our three operations sites in Nabua, our Leaf Division in Nadi, and our station in Mavua now contributing towards our Zero Waste to Landfill initiative,” Dormor said.
“What this means is that all waste generated from Nadi and Mavua that can be recycled, will from today be recycled through our partnership with Pacific Recycling Foundation and Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited. This will help to greatly reduce our waste going to the landfill at Navutu and Sigatoka ensuring proper waste management and contributing to a reduction in waste generation at our sites in the west, in addition to the program that was launched for our Nabua site last year. This is another step on our journey to achieving our target of less than 1% Waste to Landfill for our operations sites.”
BAT Fiji has partnered with Pacific Recycling Foundation and Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited for its Zero Waste to Landfill initiative. This has seen the introduction of ‘I Recycle’ Hubs at its sites in Nadi and Mavua.
Pacific Recycling Foundation Founder, Amitesh Deo said BAT Fiji’s bold initiative is setting an example in the country.
“BAT Fiji has set a benchmark in corporate responsibility by being the first company in Fiji to adopt the ‘I Recycle’ Program at their Nabua site. We are thrilled to see this initiative extend to their Nadi and Sigatoka facilities. This expansion is a testament to BAT Fiji’s dedication to sustainability and sets an example for other organizations to follow,” Deo said.
“Our collaboration with BAT Fiji is paving the way for a future where waste management is a priority for businesses, contributing to the larger goal of environmental preservation in Fiji.”
Deo emphasised that the ‘I Recycle’ Program is not just about recycling, it’s about changing mindsets and driving a cultural shift towards sustainability.
The launch marks a major milestone as BAT Fiji becomes the first corporate organization in Fiji to integrate Waste Recyclers Fiji’s sustainable waste management practices across all its operations sites.
Building on the success of the initial implementation at its Nabua site in 2023, this expansion underscores BAT Fiji’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
The company’s three operations sites in Fiji will now be utilizing the best practices in recycling, ensuring that recyclables are efficiently captured and diverted from dumpsites and landfills.
