PRF and WRFL To Host Groundbreaking Tourism Recycling Forum

Several resorts and hotels have confirmed their participation in the inaugural Pacific Recycling Foundation and Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited-organised Tourism Recycling Forum.

Scheduled for September 18, 2024, this event will be held at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi. The Forum is being hosted in collaboration with Tourism Fiji, Paradise Beverages Limited, and Tanoa Hotel Group.

The Forum marks a critical step forward for Fiji’s tourism sector, emphasising its vital role in the national economy and its commitment to environmental sustainability.

This landmark event will bring together resort and hotel operators from Suva to Nadi and other parts of the country to address common recycling challenges faced by WRFL and introduce an innovative program focused on the recovery of used Paradise Beverage glass bottles from participating establishments.

The Founder of Pacific Recycling Foundation, Amitesh Deo, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative.

“The Forum represents a unique opportunity for hotels and resorts to collaboratively enhance recycling practices. As we embark on this journey, it is clear that recycling and effective waste management are essential for environmental sustainability.”

Deo highlighted the increasing importance of environmentally conscious practices in the post-COVID era.

“Today’s travellers are more aware of their environmental impact and seek destinations that reflect their values. Our commitment to recycling and sustainability is now a necessity. This Forum will enable our tourism partners to implement best practices and proudly showcase their dedication to environmental responsibility.”

By participating in this event, resorts, and hotels will play a crucial role in advancing recycling efforts and advocating sustainable tourism practices. Their involvement will not only align with global standards and appeal to eco-conscious travellers but also support efforts to reduce reliance on open dumpsites and the landfill for disposing of hotel and resort waste.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka will officiate this historic event.
