FDB Diverts 1.9 Tonnes of Recyclables from Landfill Through ‘I Recycle Hub Program’

The Fiji Development Bank has achieved a significant milestone in environmental sustainability, successfully diverting a substantial 1.9 tonnes of recyclables from landfills and dumpsites for recycling, through Pacific Recycling Foundation’s I Recycle Hub Program, in partnership with USAID Clean Cities Blue Ocean (CCBO) program.

This accomplishment, recorded from September 14th, 2023, to May 21st, 2024, marks the highest collection among four implementing sites under this program.

The Founder of Pacific Recycling Foundation, Amitesh Deo expressed his admiration for FDB’s achievement.

“FDB’s success is a testament to the dedication and passion of its recycling advocates, staff, and tenants. They have elevated their commitment to recycling advocacy, setting a new standard for our efforts,” stated Mr. Deo.

Throughout the specified period, FDB collected and redirected for recycling 81kg of plastic, 329.5kg of glass bottles, 426.5kg of PET bottles, 1 tonne of cardboard and paper, and 47.5kg of tin and aluminum cans.

Deo said this cumulative effort underscores FDB’s pivotal role in environmental conservation.

He highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting that FDB was the first site for the program in Fiji and the region.

“Since the inception of the program at FDB, we have conducted 20 collections, witnessing substantial improvements with each.  The data demonstrate a transformative shift in mindset and behaviour towards best practices among FDB staff and their tenants,” he added.

Fiji Development Bank CEO, Mr. Saud Minam said they are delighted that FDB is making a positive impact.

“I would like to thank our Manager Properties and Administration, Mr. Mangal Singh, the FDB team at large, and our tenants for driving this great initiative,” said Mr. Minam.

“Let us continue to work towards a sustainable Fiji,” he added.
