Let us come together and ensure that every corner of Bykeitou Settlement shines with hope and positivity this Diwali – Deo
PRF Founder encourages everyone to engage in the act of giving and cleaning at Bykeitou Settlement before dressing up for Diwali celebrations
The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) through its ‘Look Beyond Movement’ approach will be carrying out a clean-up of Bykeitou Settlement, an informal settlement in Maqbool Road, Nasinu, this Friday, just days before the major Hindu festival, Diwali – an endeavour much more than a simple clean-up.
PRF Founder, Mr. Amitesh Deo said the clean-up event is strategically scheduled just three days before Diwali, a festival celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy, and it’s an effort to uplift the living conditions of the settlement’s residents and create a more sustainable future.
Bykeitou Settlement, home to many, is marred by improper waste management, leading to the accumulation of rubbish and limited access to essential services. The residents of this settlement face daily challenges due to the lack of proper waste disposal facilities.
In response to these issues, PRF has recently launched the “I Recycle Hub” program in Bykeitou Settlement in partnership with the USAID’s Clean Cities Blue Oceans program and Nasinu Town Council, aimed at transforming mindsets and behaviours towards sustainable waste management practices while providing practical solutions to the residents.
“Bykeitou Settlement has been long overlooked, and we believe it’s our collective responsibility to make a positive change. Our ‘I Recycle Hub’ program is a step towards creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment. We invite everyone to join us in this clean-up effort to bring about tangible change and positively impact the lives of the residents,” said Mr. Deo.
Mr. Deo stated Diwali is significant for cleaning homes and living spaces to symbolise the spread of light, positivity, and happiness and with the clean-up on Friday, they encourage everyone to engage in the act of giving and cleaning before dressing up for Diwali celebrations and to observe the festival in a spirit of generosity and community.
“As we prepare to celebrate Diwali, a festival of lights, let us illuminate not only our homes but also the lives of the less privileged. Let us come together and ensure that every corner of Bykeitou Settlement shines with hope and positivity,” said Mr. Deo.
PRF also extends an appeal to employers to support their employees’ participation in this initiative.
Mr. Deo said considering the importance of the clean-up on the eve of Diwali, a day when people traditionally dress up and celebrate in their workplaces, PRF encourages organisations to be considerate of this cause and hold dress-up events and celebrations after the event should they join the clean-up from 6am-8am this Friday, 10 November.
