As we prepare for festivities, the Pacific Recycling Foundation calls for mindful choices and urges Fijians to embrace the true essence of gifting while considering the environmental impact this Christmas.
Acknowledging the cultural significance of gifting, PRF underscores the need for meaningful exchanges that minimise environmental harm.
“Let’s prioritise sustainable practices in our gifting choices. This Christmas, let’s redefine gifting. It’s about heartfelt gestures that don’t rely on conventional wrapping but carry a deeper significance,” stressed Mr. Amitesh Deo, Founder of PRF.
He said the PRF encourages considering non-material gifts, such as the gift of experiences like a shared dinner, crafting personal tokens of appreciation, or contributing to community initiatives.
Mr. Deo added these thoughtful alternatives alleviate the environmental burden caused by excessive wrapping and packaging.
“Choosing gifts that reflect thoughtfulness and purpose not only fosters a more profound connection but also minimises our environmental impact,” emphasised Mr. Deo.
Furthermore, PRF emphasises the Fijian tradition of gifting, rooted in cultural significance and communal values.
“This Christmas, let’s honour our environment, cherish our traditions, and gift with purpose,” said Mr. Deo.
