Department of Environment
The PRF continues to work closely with the Department of Environment in the area of proper waste management and bringing recycling to the fore. The Department of Environment has also participated in dialogues and forums organised by the PRF on mindset, behaviour, and challenges associated with recycling. The Department of Environment continues to support PRF’s tailor-made recycling programs and most recently the Prime Minister and Minister for Environment, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka officiated at the 2023 Global Recycling Day celebrations and also endorsed PRF’s national campaigns and messages.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the PRF are working in close collaboration to conduct a feasibility study to establish possible networking to bring recyclables from outer islands and Vanua Levu to Viti Levu. The feasibility study on connecting the outer islands and Vanua Levu to mainland Viti Levu is an important first step in capturing recyclables from different outer islands and maritime areas. The IUCN also partnered with the PRF for the Kabutri Drive Pilot Recycling Project in Koronivia, a first-of-its-kind program designed to inculcate best practices of recycling in a community. The IUCN also teamed up with the PRF in organising empowerment sessions for women CPRs from Lautoka.
USAID
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through its Clean Cities, Blue Ocean (CCBO) program, awarded a grant to Waste Recyclers Fiji Ltd (WRFL) and Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) to design and build I-Recycle Hub Bins that will promote recycling practices in Suva City. With USAID’s support, five bins will be set up in well-known high-occupancy establishments around the city, particularly in office buildings, apartments, and small business shops.
Swire Shipping
Swire Shipping remains a committed partner of the PRF. They have been partnering with PRF for the Recycling on the Go (ROG) Ambassadors Program which was piloted at Jai Narayan College in 2022 and upscaled to Jasper Williams High School, and Nadi Sangam Primary School in 2023. Swire Shipping has also been partnering with PRF for Global Recycling Day celebrations since 2021.
Pacific Energy
Pacific Energy has been partnering with the PRF for Global Recycling Day celebrations since 2021. They have also come on board as the major partner for a recycling project at Kilikali Settlement, aimed at changing the mindset and behaviour towards recycling at an informal settlement. Pacific Energy also partnered with the PRF for a major national campaign aligned with the 2023 Global Recycling Day, ‘Wear a Pin, Join the Movement’.
Tourism Fiji
Tourism Fiji came on board as the major partner for 2023 Global Recycling Day. This partnership greatly assisted the PRF in hosting the GRD celebration at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort. They also took part in a Roundtable discussion on mindset and behaviour towards recycling, which was organised by PRF on Day 1 of the 2023 GRD. Tourism Fiji is also assisting the PRF in getting resorts and hotels onboard recycling programs intended to capture recyclables and prevent them from getting dumped at landfill or dumpsites.
Fiji Women's Crisis Centre
The FWCC partnered with the PRF by assisting in organising empowerment sessions for women CPRs from Lautoka. The FWCC provided training on subjects like basic human rights, legal literacy, and awareness on violence against women. The organisation has also committed to assisting the PRF in the mapping exercise of waste pickers through the provision of counselors.
FRIEND Fiji
FRIEND Fiji partnered with the PRF in coordinating help efforts for the waste-picking community in Lautoka during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic through the provision of food and hygiene packs. PRF and FRIEND Fiji have also worked jointly and shared resources to assist families following natural disasters.
Fiji Cancer Society
The PRF and Fiji Cancer Society continue to collaborate toward providing structured support to women CPRs, particularly information, and assistance regarding access to basic health services as well as screening. The two organisations have also discussed opportunities to acknowledge female CPRs in Fiji for their contribution to the waste management cycle.
Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO)
WIEGO partnered with the Pacific Recycling Foundation in 2023 to conduct a mapping exercise of individuals and groups involved in informal waste picking.
Ministry of Education
The PRF continues to work closely with the Ministry of Education in its bid to instill the best practices of recycling in schools. The Ministry endorsed PRF’s Recycling on the Go (ROG) Ambassadors Program at Jai Narayan College in 2022 and the upscaling of the program to Jasper Williams High School and Nadi Sangam Primary School.

Jai Narayan College partnered with the PRF in 2022 by implementing the Recycling on the Go (ROG) Ambassadors Program, a tailor-made program designed to instill best practices of recycling at the school level.

Jasper Williams High School partnered with the PRF in 2023 by becoming the second school in the country to implement the Recycling on the Go (ROG) Ambassadors Program, a tailor-made program designed to instill best practices of recycling at the school level.
Nadi Sangam Primary School
Nadi Sangam Primary School is the first primary school in the country to implement the PRF’s Recycling on the Go (ROG) Ambassadors Program, a tailor-made program designed to instill best practices of recycling at the school level.
Fiji National University
The Fiji National University has formalised a partnership with Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited and Pacific Recycling Foundation to implement the I-Recycle Hub program to complement the University’s recycling initiatives. The I-Recycle Hub bins will be placed at the Derrick campus in Samabula and Natabua campus in Lautoka. The bins aim to promote recycling amongst students, staff, and visitors to the campus.
The University of Fiji
Pacific Recycling Foundation and the University of Fiji have announced their partnership in the area of waste management and recycling.
PRF’s collaboration with Uni Fiji involves the collection of recyclables from Samabula and Saweni campuses as well as a tailor-made training program on waste management and recycling for the University’s staff.
Lautoka City Council
Lautoka City Council partnered with the PRF to organise workshops to empower women CPRs from Lautoka, whereby a new name ‘Collection Pillars of Recycling’ was collectively chosen by the waste pickers, PRF, IUCN, and the council to bring an end to the stigma associated with waste pickers.
Suva City Council
The PRF is working closely with the Suva City Council for a major recycling project in Suva City, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through its Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program. This project is expected to reduce the amount of waste disposal at the Naboro landfill as well as lessen the pressure on the Suva City Council’s collection, transportation, and disposal of waste.
Nasinu City Council
The PRF and Nasinu Town Council are collaborating on a major recycling project for Kilikali Settlement, funded by Pacific Energy.
Nausori Town Council
The Nausori Town Council is a support partner for the PRF’s Pilot Recycling project for Kabutri Drive.
French Embassy in Fiji
The French Embassy in Fiji, in partnership with the PRF organised Fiji’s first Roundtable on Mindset and Behaviour towards recycling in 2022. The Roundtable provided the PRF and other stakeholders in the waste management space an opportunity to raise issues, and concerns as well as provide solutions for environmental sustainability.
Government of New Caledonia
The Government of New Caledonia partnered with the PRF and the French Embassy in Fiji to organise Fiji’s first Roundtable on Mindset and Behaviour towards recycling in 2022.
Fiji Development Bank
The Fiji Development Bank has come on board as an implementing partner for a major recycling project for Suva City, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through its Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program, in partnership with Waste Recyclers Fiji Ltd and Pacific Recycling Foundation.
Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF)
Pacific Recycling Foundation and Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) have been cooperating with each other on matters of mutual interest, particularly on activities and projects that promote and strengthen green growth in Fiji through sustainable development initiatives. The two organisations have also agreed to collaborate on the development of information materials to promote a blue economy and green growth with a focus on waste management.
The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP)
The PRF and SPREP have been collaborating by sharing expertise, knowledge, and solutions in the area of environment conservation, waste management, and pollution control. The PRF was invited to partner with the regional body to host a side event on circular economy at a SPREP meeting in Samoa in 2023.
Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)
The PRF continues to collaborate with the GGGI, an organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. The PRF participated in a high-level discussion on waste and the circular economy in Asia and the Pacific in the Global Green Growth Week 2022, an annual event that supported the Global Green Growth Institute and its 43 member countries to shape their messages in the leadup to the UNFCCC Conference of Parties COP27.
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
The PRF and UNDP co-developed a policy brief on the implementation of the PRF’s I-Recycle Hub Bin and program within the Tourism industry. This setup is to address and capture the increasing volumes of recyclables that resort and hotel operators produce due to their operations.
Centre for Appropriate Technology & Development (CATD)
The PRF and Centre for Appropriate Technology & Development continue to collaborate in their bid to find solutions and ideas on sustainable recycling and upcycling projects for Fiji and the region. The two organisations are exploring plastic and possibly glass upcycling options.

BSP Life was a support partner of the PRF for the 2022 and 2023 Global Recycling Day celebrations.

Bred Bank Fiji
Bred Bank Fiji partnered with the PRF and the French Embassy in Fiji to organise Fiji’s first Roundtable on Mindset and Behaviour towards recycling in 2022.
