Recycling advocates show commitment towards recycling project at Kabutri Drive 

The residents of Kabutri Drive will become part of the solution and not the problem, according to a recycling advocate, Ms Keshni Kiran.

Ms Kiran who is a teacher at Korociriciri Primary School, is part of a group of 15 advocates who will work very closely with Pacific Recycling Foundation to instill proper waste management practices in their community, following the official launch of the pilot recycling project in Kabutri Drive, Koronivia.

The first of its kind, pilot recycling project is an initiative of PRF and Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited in partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Department of Environment, Nausori Town Council and RC Manubhai.

Ms Kiran said in order to have a healthy life, proper hygiene and sanitation are necessary, and it is only possible through proper waste management.

“The most effective way of proper waste management is through recycling as this method does not need any type of resources but recyclables,” said Ms Kiran.

She said going forward, they will be able to maintain clean and hygienic surroundings with the provision of a ‘I Recycle’ bin at Kabutri Drive. 

Ms Kiran added they will also not get the stench from the rubbish that was carelessly dumped at the entrance of their road and visitors will finally get to see the beauty of Kabutri Drive.

“I want to thank PRF for having faith in us and creating awareness on the importance of proper waste management,” said Ms Kiran.

The Founder of PRF, Mr. Amitesh Deo said they are pleased to see that recycling advocates are taking a keen interest in the project and are eager to work with them to change mindsets and behaviour in their community.
