Recycling advocates, students, teachers, academics, and renowned sports personalities converged at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi for the successful Recycling on the Go (ROG) Ambassadors Leadership Forum, organised by Pacific Recycling Foundation in partnership with Swire Shipping and Tanoa Hotel Group.

The event, held on 2nd February 2024, brought together a diverse array of stakeholders dedicated to advancing recycling and sustainability initiatives across Fiji.

Ms. Selina Kuruleca, the Permanent Secretary for Education, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, symbolising her Ministry’s and governmental support for PRF’s ROG Program Development.

The highlight of the event was the participation of 30 students, known as ROG Ambassadors, representing Jai Narayan College, Jasper Williams High School, and Nadi Sangam School. These enthusiastic young leaders shared their journeys, experiences, challenges, and innovative ideas for sustainability, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to environmental stewardship.

PRF Founder, Mr. Deo expressed gratitude for the initiative shown by the 30 students and their invaluable contribution to our cause.

“Their dedication and passion exemplify the spirit of activism, reminding us that meaningful change begins at the grassroots level.”

He further emphasised the importance of nurturing such enthusiasm and engagement among the youth, recognising their role as catalysts for building a more sustainable future.”

Adding to the enthusiasm of the forum, Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players, Caleb Muntz, Sailosi Vukalokalo, and Kitione Salawa, joined as New Recycling Advocates and showcased their dedication to the cause by making presentations with the students.

Mr. Deo said their involvement underscores the power of collaboration between sports icons and recycling and environmental advocates in creating recycling awareness.

The forum was also marked by the presence of distinguished academics, Dr. Padma Lal and Dr. Thelma Raman, who travelled from Australia to lend their expertise to this groundbreaking initiative.

The ROG Ambassadors Leadership Forum served as a pivotal platform for the Pacific Recycling Foundation to advance its ROG strategy in collaboration with Swire Shipping and the Ministry of Education. With the program currently implemented in three schools and plans for upscaling in more schools soon, this forum marked a significant milestone in the journey towards a greener and more sustainable Fiji.
