Let us celebrate Earth Day by setting our differences aside to work together by demonstrating genuine care and commitment to preserving our environment and the earth.

The Founder of the Pacific Recycling Foundation, Mr. Amitesh Deo has made this call as the world celebrates Earth Day tomorrow.

“This is a call to national political leaders especially those in the coalition government to put differences aside and become united for the common good of Fiji, its environment, and its people,” said Mr. Deo.

“This global call for unity must start here at home and in particular our political space.”

The PRF Founder said Earth Day is marked as a reminder of the need for a collective global unity to take deliberate, meaningful, actions to look after the Earth.

Mr. Deo said Earth Day is to celebrate us as global citizens however, in Fiji there is still a lingering feeling of uncertainty,  especially for those in marginalised spaces.

“This Earth Day, we acknowledge the difficult journey of advocacy for the environment and the need to have stability and sustainability to protect our earth.

“If there’s no political stability and political justice, the environmental justice that we’re advocating for will never be achieved,” he said.

The PRF Founder said as the Foundation continues to change mindsets and behaviour toward best practices, it needs the same level of commitment from the Government, private sector, and development partners.

“It is our plea to work together for a common good – managing waste and keeping our environment clean.” Mr. Deo added.
